(Video) Sunderland loanee Jeremain Lens returns from mourning death of father to provide assist in Fenerbahce win

Fenerbahce beat Osmanlispor 1-0 at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium but the main talking point after the game was Jeremain Lens.

Lens travelled back to the Netherlands after his father passed away late last week.

The Dutch star on loan from Sunderland was expected to miss Fenerbahce’s clash against Osmanlispor on Sunday 5 March to grieve the loss of his father but instead he cut his trip short, returned to Turkey and provided the assist for Mehmet Topal’s last gasp winner.

Lens was widely praised by Fenerbahce and non Fener fans alike for overcoming his pain and still managing to give his all to the team.

After the game Lens thanks Fenerbahce and rival fans for the support they showed him over the past few days.

“I had to return for my team, it was my way of honouring my father, I just want to thank all Fenerbahce fans and the supporters of other clubs who gave me their support during this tough time,” Lens was quoted by Turkish-Football as saying after the game.

Lens now has four goals and 12 assists in all competitions for the Yellow Canaries this season.

The victory snapped a three game drawing streak in the league for Fenerbahce and put some distance between themselves and Antalyaspor who have been putting pressure on the 4th place spot.
