‘I’m growing into a man’ – Liverpool star waxes lyrical about Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool star midfielder Emre Can has claimed that Jurgen Klopp has transformed him into a leader.

The 22-year-old has established himself at Liverpool since joining from Bayer Leverkusen.

Can has enjoyed a regular place in Liverpool’s starting lineup in recent weeks and hasn’t wasted his opportunity.

“I was a very young when I came to Liverpool and now I’m growing into a man,” Can was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.

“Of course I had to change my style after I arrived in the Premier League because if you come to England, you have to play a more physical type of football. You have to play quicker as everything is faster here. I had to learn that.

“I think I have done well and I would say I am happy with my three years in England so far but I know I still have a lot of improvements I can make.

“I am getting older and I feel that I am taking more responsibility on the pitch and that’s my target. I want to push the team and help us to play good football.

“Klopp told me he expects a lot from me, but I expect a lot from myself as well. He’s a great, great manager and you really can learn a lot from him, not just on the pitch but outside the pitch too as he is a really good guy.”

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Germany international played though the pain barrier for his club this season.

However, Can’s future at Liverpool is still cast in doubt. The powerful midfielder is yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

The 22-year-old has 14 months remaining on his current contract with the Reds.

Liverpool suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace last weekend.

The Merseyside club currently sit in third place in the Premier League with 66 points after 34 games. However, Man City, Man United and Arsenal all have games in hand over Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side take on Watford FC on Monday as they look to return to winning ways.
