Roma take on Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final first-leg clash at Anfield on Tuesday in what will be their third game in six days.
Predicting the Giallorossi’s line-up and formation requires a bit of detective work.
At Sassuolo, Eusebio Di Francesco introduced his 4-3-3 system, based on that of his managerial mentor Zdenek Zeman.
He still uses it at Roma but has not been afraid to deviate.
Di Francesco successful tweaked to a 4-2-3-1 setup soon after the turn of the year.
The Italian boss has also made more radical tactical changes, recently flirting with a 3-5-2 formation in the second leg against Barcelona and then Lazio in Serie A.

The Roma boss has made no secret that he favors a four-man defence, he said: “I prefer a four-man defence and have only gone with a back three out of necessity.
“In order to be able to get better, all coaches have to be able to get their philosophy and coaching style across. For me, a back four will be the basis of this Roma team.”
However, considering he managed to destroy Barcelona in the second-leg using a three-man defence he could be tempted to stick with the winning formula against Liverpool.
What we do know is that Cengiz Under, Aleksandar Kolarov, Alessandro Florenzi, Daniele De Rossi and Edin Dzeko were rested against SPAL and are likely to return to the starting line-up.
Rick Karsdorp and Gregoire Defrel are the only reported absences for the visitors.
Defence
Alisson is almost certain to start in goal. The hero of Barcelona Kostas Manolas has recovered from an injury scare and will be likely to get the nod alongside Jesus and Fazio in defence.
Midfield
Nainggolan, Kevin Strootman and De Rossi are likely to start in central midfield with Florenzi and Kolarov out wide.
Attack
Edin Dzeko and Cengiz Under were both rested over the weekend. Di Francesco did hint that they needed Under’s pace against Liverpool so we can assume he will start.
