The former Liverpool midfielder and BT Sport pundit Steve McManaman has stated that Emre Can is more suited to playing the midfield role over Lucas Leiva.
McManaman said that Can offered an offensive threat from midfield and his role in Liverpool’s opening goal against Villarreal was an example of this.
The former Real Madrid star went onto say that Can style of play suits Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.
“From the first time he received the ball today he looked sharp and wanted to move forward,” McManaman told BT Sport following Liverpool’s win over Villarreal.
“Lucas has done really well in that position but i think Emre Can has a little more mobility.”
“He wanted to move forward at pace all the time and when he does that is suits Liverpool’s style of play.”
Can was rested for Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Watford FC in the Premier League on Sunday.
The 22-year-old has three assists and two goals in 47 appearances for Liverpool this season.
Liverpool take on Sevilla in the Europa League final against Sevilla on May 18 at St Jakob’s park in Switzerland.
