When it comes to social media followers there are two juggernauts as far the Premier League is concerned, Wayne Rooney and Mesut Ozil.

Rooney was previously the most followed Premier League player on Twitter with Ozil in second position.

In February Rooney had 14.4 million followers compared to Ozil’s 14.3 million.

Ozil surged ahead in the following months to become the first player in the league to reach 15 million.

The playmaker of Turkish origin reached another social media milestone recently after becoming the first Premier League player to reach 60 million followers – across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Rooney meanwhile has 14.8 million Twitter followers, 25.5 million Facebook likes and 10.6 million followers on Instagram giving him a total of 50.9 million followers.
