Galatasaray Blame Donald Trump For Transfer Window Woes As Turkish Lira Slides

The fall of the Turkish Lira has seen Galatasaray’s debt increase by 25 percent according to club vice-president Abdurahman Albayrak.

The Lions official blamed US president Donald Trump for putting the club in this situation.

The reigning Super Lig champions have spent just £2million this summer on Yuto Nagamoto from Inter Milan, the rest of their summer business has been largely made up of loans including the signing of Everton forward Henry Onyekuru on a temporary move.

Albayrak said on Turkish TV: “There is a man in America… God damn him, he ruined us.

“I’m talking about Trump…

“Nor can you remove it because our debt has increased by 25 percent in one day.”

Despite winning the Super Lig title last summer the Lions have been unable to invest in building a squad prepared for Champions League football.

In contrast, Galatasaray spent £35m last summer despite only having Europa League football.

On August 10, the US president revealed – on Twitter, of course,- he was hitting Turkey with trading tariffs.

He said: “I have just authorized a doubling of Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum with respect to Turkey as their currency, the Turkish Lira, slides rapidly downward against our very strong Dollar!

“Aluminum will now be 20% and Steel 50%. Our relations with Turkey are not good at this time!”
