Chelsea’s efforts to build ties with Turkey appear to be having some impact. The Blues were recently involved in a charity tournament to raise funds for the families of the Soma mining disaster.

The Blues have also been in talks with Beşiktaş over establishing a partnership and recently opened a football school in Antalya.

Ex Chelsea striker Demba Ba and former youth player Gökhan Töre recently joined Beşiktaş while Blues legend Didier Drogba enjoyed a brief stint at Galatasaray before returning to London.

Arsenal have a well established Turkish following based around the diaspora community in London.

Liverpool also have a traditional following in Turkey that has recently been targeted by the club.

The Reds have an official Turkish language Twitter page and are sponsored by Turkish clothing company Ramsey.

Liverpool also embarked on taking a lead role in the Turkish reality programme, Futbol Prensi (Football Prince) a few years ago.

The show was setup to give one 14-16 year old prospect a once in a lifetime opportunity to join the Liverpool FC academy and train with the club for a year.

The winner Emin Altunay was from Hatay, a region on the Twitter map that has a Liverpool following majority.

The 2005 Champions League final being played in Istanbul could also have played a role in Liverpool having a large following in Turkey.
