Man City star Ilkay Gundogan was involved in a bizarre exchange of tweets with one of his twitter followers yesterday.
One of Gundogan’s followers called the Manchester City midfielder a snake but they apologised for the insult.
The fan was upset that Gundogan decided to play for Germany at international level.
Despite being born in Germany, Gundogan is of Turkish origin and was eligible to play for Turkey.
The decision to represent Turkey or Germany is often a tough call for many players born in Germany of Turkish origin.
Mesut Ozil and Emre Can decided to pick Germany while Hakan Calhanoglu and Omer Toprak represent Turkey. All four players were born in Germany and are part of the Turkish community which form the largest ethnic minority in the country.
Gundogan responded to his follower with a tweet in Turkish which stated: “I don’t fall out with people easily, I have already forgiven you my boy.”

The fan responded to Gundogan’s tweet in Turkish and in a cheeky move asked the midfielder to follow him back.
Gundogan’s family originate from the Balikesir province, in the Aegean region of Turkey. The City player keeps close ties to his family in Turkey and is involved in work to promote and develop the area.
The Germany international has been involved in a stadium project in the Dursunbey district of Baliksesir which will be named after him.
Gundogan’s family are from the town of Dursunbey and his father İrfan – who also happens to be his agent – has been closely involved in the construction of the sporting venue.
The 24-year-old midfielder is expected to be present at the stadium inauguration and could play a friendly on the new ground according to Dursunbey club president Yusuf Turfan.
