Gary Neville mocks Liverpool fans following goal of the season vote
Manchester United legend Gary Neville took a swipe at Liverpool fans following the goal of the season vote.
Neville has a frosty relationship with the Reds fan base and the SkySports pundit has stoked the fire even more.
Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville were present when the SkySports Goal of the Season was revealed. During the broadcast both Carragher and Neville were asked what their favourite goal from this season was.
Neville – perhaps unsurprisingly – choose Man Utd summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s flick as his goal of the season.
However, Emre Can’s incredible effort for Liverpool against Watford FC won the popular vote. The 23-year-old’s goal picked up 35% of the public vote.
Neville laughed upon hearing the result of the vote.
“It’s a great goal but it’s a little unsurprising,” Neville stated.
“If you’ve ever watched X-Factor and those that type of programme it’s always someone from Liverpool that does well because they vote for their own in droves.
“It isn’t for me the best of the season but how can the public be wrong?”
Emre Can has been in impressive form for Liverpool in recent weeks.
The Germany international’s future at Anfield is however cast in doubt. Can will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at the end of the season.
Liverpool take on Middlesbrough this weekend knowing a victory will secure them UEFA Champions League football.
