Ilkay Gundogan has taken to social media to congratulate his teammate Benjamin Mendy upon France’s 2018 World Cup triumph.
Interestingly, Benjamin Mendy made just one appearance throughout the tournament, playing for just 40 minutes.
The former Monaco left-back suffered a knee injury last summer and made just a handful of appearances for Man City during the 2017/18 season.
Following France’s 4-2 win over Croatia on Sunday, Gundogan sent out the following tweet.

Both Mendy and Gundogan are expected to return to pre-season training with Manchester City later this month.
Gundogan has been linked with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona over recent weeks.
However, Gundogan has a further two years remaining on his contract with the Citizens. The 27-year-old was instrumental in City’s title win last season and made a total of 49 appearances.
Gundogan was included in the Germany national team which crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage.
Manchester City take on title rivals Arsenal in their opening game of the 2018/19 Premier League season.
