Jamie Carragher rips into ’embarrassing’ Arsenal players and reveals reason behind poor performances

Former England international defender Jamie Carragher has ripped into Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez following the Gunners defeat to Crystal Palace.

Arsenal suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Palace on Monday night. The Gunners are now seven points behind fourth placed Man City.

Both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil put in disappointing performances and were roundly criticised by fans on social media.

Carragher stated that both Sanchez and Ozil have been embarrassing following their showing on Monday night.

The Liverpool legend put the dip in performances down to contract talks between the players and the club.

Carragher went onto say that neither players performances are good enough for a club of Arsenal’s stature.

“The contracts with Sanchez and Ozil – they’ve been nothing short of embarrassing since the contract talks started,” Carragher stated live on Sky’s Monday Night Football.

“I think Sanchez has been awful the last couple of months. It’s looking like they’re playing to get away.

“Their performances since the talks started have been embarrassing. They’ve been nowhere near good enough for Arsenal.”

Arsenal’s hopes of UEFA Champions League football next season seem to be fading fast. The Gunners take on relegation battlers Middlesborough this weekend as they look to return to winning ways.

Ozil has 11 assists and ten goals to his name so far this season. Sanchez meanwhile has scored 22 goals in 41 games for Arsenal this term.
