Fenerbahce star Jeremain Lens joins Liverpool star in latest Netherlands national team call-up, Sneijder dropped due to injury

Fenerbahce star Jeremain Lens was the sole call-up to the Netherlands national team squad ahead of Group A World Cup qualification games against Bulgaria and Italy.

Head coach Danny Blind left Galatasaray star Wesley Sneijder out of the team due to injury, meanwhile Fenerbahce striker Robin van Persie was left out.

Besiktas winger Ryan Babel did not make the squad either.

Blind did however, name his son Daley Blind, the only Manchester United player to make the squad.

Liverpool star man Gini Wijnaldum was rewarded for his rich vein of form in the Premier League with a call-up and will join Lens in the midfield.

Lens has been Fenerbahce’s best performing player of the season, Sunderland loanee has three goals and 12 assists in all competitions for the Yellow Canaries.

The Netherlands international is currently statistically the second highest rated player in the Turkish league.

Lens returned from mourning the death of his father on Sunday to provide the game winning assist in Fenerbahce’s 1-0 win over Osmanlispor.
