Liverpool ruin Barcelona plans to announce £90m transfer today after Reds pull plug on deal, Spanish giants could be forced to use MST
Liverpool ruined plans to present Philippe Coutinho as a Barcelona player today, according to El Periodico.
Per the source, Barcelona had to cancel the planned announcement of Coutinho after Liverpool rejected their move.
Barcelona have had two bids – first of £72million, then £90million – rejected by the Reds.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained to Sky Germany on Thursday his star man is not for sale.
“Liverpool is not a club that has to sell players,” Klopp said. “That is set in stone. So what they pay in the end doesn’t matter.
“From a financial standpoint, there is no price limit to let him go or a price that we are ready to give in.
“Our goal is to have the best possible team. So we want to keep our guys and add new ones. That is our plan.”
Liverpool owners FSG – who consist of John W Henry, the Principal Owner, Chairman Tom Werner and Sports President Mike Gordon – also released a statement that Coutinho is not for sale this window.
The statement read: “We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho
“The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes.”

The latest developments could result in Barcelona being forced into abandoning plans to sell Arda Turan.
The attacking midfielder looked destined for a summer exit but may end up staying on as a first-team player.
As things stand Turan will be competing for a first-choice role to fill the void left by Neymar.
The 30-year-old did play in Neymar’s position when the Brazilian was out last season.
The MSN could end up becoming the MST at this rate – Messi, Suarez, Turan.
They haven’t pulled the plug on the deal, because there was never a deal in the first place
