Former Newcastle United and West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop believes Liverpool will sign Napoli star midfielder Jorginho as a direct replacement for Emre Can.
Can has been linked with a move away from the Merseyside based club after failing to put pen-to-paper on a new contract.
The 24-year-old has under three-months left on his contract with the Reds and is currently free to hold talks with foreign clubs.
According to Hislop, Jorginho can slot into the gap Can will leave in the midfield.
“I think it does work (Jorginho in the Liverpool midfield),” Hislop told ESPN FC.
“Jorginho has got a lot of interest from all over Europe, including a couple of the big clubs in English football.
“It looks like Emre Can is leaving this summer. His contract is up, negotiations have stalled.
“I think Jorginho is a very good replacement for Emre Can. Liverpool will need to get their business done and get it done quickly.”
Jorginho has been linked with a Napoli exit in recent weeks and Liverpool are favourites to sign him with the bookies.
Italian outlet Corriere del Mezzogiorno have stated that it will take a €40 million bid to prize the star midfielder away from Napoli.
Can will be available for selection when Liverpool host Newcastle United in the Premier League. The Germany international has retained his place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven despite the ongoing contract saga.
