Andre Onana may go to the Africa Cup of Nations earlier than expected according to Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag.
While he’ll be available for Monday’s FA Cup clash against Wigan, his participation in the crucial Premier League match against Tottenham hangs in the balance.

“So we’re talking with the Cameroon federation,” United manager Erik ten Hag clarified as reported by the Manchester Evening News. “It was an issue during the talks with Andre when he came in here.
“It’s constructive. We will see. I don’t know yet (if he will play against Tottenham) but he will be here for the game against Wigan.”
Yesterday it was reported that Onana would stay for the Tottenham game and then jump on a flight to join Cameroon all within 24 hours.
Onana, named in Cameroon’s AFCON squad, faces a tight schedule. Their opening game clashes with United’s Tottenham encounter, just 24 hours apart.
This conundrum arose after Onana, who initially retired from international duty, was surprisingly recalled by Cameroon coach Rigobert Song in September.
Determined to maximize his playing time for United before departing for the tournament, Onana is delaying his AFCON arrival until the very last minute.
He’s been a constant figure in goal for United all season, starting all 28 matches, leaving summer signing Altay Bayindir on the sidelines.
However, Cameroon face a delicate decision regarding Onana’s involvement against Tottenham. Risking the crucial league fixture against their rivals with a potentially fatigued Onana, fresh from a long flight, carries significant risk.
It would be a bizarre decision for Onana to play against Tottenham and then start for his nation 24 hours later.
Onana does not want to lose his place to Bayindir who could poach his position in goal if he plays well.
The Cameroon international has not been in good form and has come under criticism for some of the mistakes he has made.
The coming days will be pivotal in determining Onana’s playing time and how United navigate this delicate balancing act. Their decision could significantly impact their short-term Premier League aspirations and potentially pave the way for Bayindir’s debut.
