Manchester City’s summer signing Ilkay Gundogan could make his debut for his new club against their fierce rivals Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has been ruled out for the opening weeks of the Premier League with an injury. Gundogan dislocated his knee during training with Dortmund, the injury which almost cost him a move to City.
According to the Manchester Evening News, during an interview with Gundogan they asked the Germany international whether he has targeted the Manchester derby for his debut.
The report states that “Gundogan’s smile, never far from his lips, cracked his face.”
Gundogan went onto say, “Hopefully in August, but it is difficult to say right at the moment. I spoke to the doctors and everyone is happy with the level I have now.
“I train as normal, maybe better than normal, so I am quite happy with where I am at the moment.”
Gundogan initially joined Dortmund from Nuremberg in 2011 under the stewardship of Klopp and helped the Bundesliga giants reach the 2013 Champions League final. The 25-year-old provided seven assists and three goals in 40 appearances for Dortmund last season.
