Chelsea winger on loan at Newcastle not joining Turkish leaders

Turkish Super Lig leaders Basaksehir were closely linked Chelsea winger Christian Atsu who is on loan at Newcastle United according to the Daily Star [via Fanatik].

Per the source, Basaksehir have been in talks with Chelsea over loaning Atsu with a future buyout clause option.

Negotiations between the Blues and the Istanbul minnows were reported to have reached an advanced stage.

Atsu joined Newcastle United on a one-year loan from Chelsea over the summer but has started just six games this season.

Basaksehir executive director Mustafa Erogut has however, confirmed to Turkish-Football that there is no deal and that no offer was made.

The story turns out to have been nothing more than a January transfer rumour.

The 25-year-old has been a regular substitute for the Championship outfit, coming off the bench 10 times.

Atsu is keen on locking down a regular first-team spot and establishing a permanent long term place.

The winger joined the Premier League outfit from Porto in 2013 but has failed to break into the team and is yet to make a senior appearance.

The Ghana international has had five loan moves in the past three and a half years including moves to Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga.

Basaksehir are surprise leaders in the Turkish Super League and undefeated in the league this season.

The Istanbul minnows have signed rising star Irfan Can Kahveci and experienced Turkish international defender Egemen Korkmaz in January.

The club was founded in 1990 and it would be a huge upset if they were to hang on and win the league title.

Only five clubs have won the championship in Turkey, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas, Trabzonspor and Bursaspor.

Basaksehir are coached by former Turkish national team head coach Abdullah Avci and finished the last two seasons in the top four despite being on a shoestring budget compared to their Istanbul rivals.
