Arsenal eye Bundesliga centre-back with Shkodran Mustafi deal stalling

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reported to be considering his options with his move for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi reportedly stalling according to the Express.

Wenger has his eye on Turkish international defender Omer Toprak according to the Daily Star preferring him over a move for Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer – who the Gunners have also been linked with.

Toprak is available for less than Mustafi and has years of Bundesliga and Champions League experience behind him.

Wenger did have Koscielny back today for the Gunners clash against Premier League champions but is still without Per Mertesacker and Gabriel due to injuries.

Toprak does have another two-years remaining on his contract but he has hinted that he could leave over the summer.

The Turkey international was quoted by Turkish-Football.com as saying: “It is not certain whether I will stay at Bayer Leverkusen, we still have a month and anything could happen until them.”

Arsenal could however, face competition from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund who are also reported to be in the race.
