Ozil did not score a 'sublime free-kick' it was a 'goalkeeping error' says Liverpool legend

Arsenal star Mesut Özil

Arsenal star Mesut Özil cannot seem to do anything right, the World Cup winner scored in the Gunners 4-1 win against Liverpool and was involved in Héctor Bellerín’s goal but it was still not enough to win over the BT Sport pundits.

Özil was not praised for scoring, instead Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was blamed by former Liverpool player Steve McManaman for conceding the free-kick.

“It was not a sublime free-kick it was a goalkeeping error,” Mcmanam said speaking on BT Sport.

Arsenal ended up winning the game 4-1 and moving into second place, two points ahead of Manchester City in the Premier League table.

The Citizens could however, move back ahead of Arsenal with a win against Crystal Palace on Monday.

Özil has come under fire from sections of the media this season but will probably feel a little hard done by considering his form in 2015.

The 26-year-old was selected as the best performing attacking midfielder in Europe in 2015 according to the CIES Football Observatory’s latest performance rankings.

The World Cup winner now has five goals and seven assists in all competitions for Arsenal this season.
