Mesut Özil has backed the former Chelsea manager José Mourinho to bounce back after being fired from Stamford Bridge last month.
The Portuguese coach parted company with Chelsea following a disappointing start of the season. Özil worked under Mourinho while at Real Madrid.
“I’m surprised by what happened with José,” Özil stated in an interview with Henry Winter of the Times
“He’s a great manager. I believe that any club he goes to now he will be successful again.
“I know how special he is as a manager. He is a manager who always supports his team and always protects his team. He’s getting the best out of any player. I wish him all the best for the future, and also that he’s healthy and fine.”
Özil has provided 16 assists in 17 Premier League games which is more than any other player in England and the top five leagues in Europe including France, Italy, Spain and Germany.
The 27-year-old has also been awarded two Player of the Month awards for October, November and is currently favourite to win the December addition as well.
Arsenal moved two points clear of Leicester City at the top of the table following their 1-0 win over Newcastle United last weekend.
The Gunners take on Sunderland in the FA Cup next weekend and travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in their next league games.
