Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil has stated that this seasons clash with Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League will be a benchmark to see how much the Gunners have improved.
Bayern defeated Arsenal twice in the Champions League back in 2014. Özil also stated that he wants to win the European Championships with Germany in 2016.
“The group stage clashes with Bayern Munich are a real benchmark test. And I want to win the European Championships with Germany,” Özil was quoted as saying by the Standard.
Arsenal have been drawn in the same group as the Bundesliga champions. The North London based side host Bayern on 20 October.
Özil is expected to start in Germany’s Euro 2016 qualification clash with Scotland tonight. Germany have won their last four games and sit at the top of Group D with 16 points in seven games.
The 26-year-old missed Arsenal’s clash with Newcastle due to a knee injury last week but is expected to play his second game in four days later today.
Özil return from injury will be a boost to Arsenal fans. The Gunners were the only club from the top five European leagues not to sign an outfield player during the summer transfer window.
