Arsenal smashed CSKA Moscow 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium in the Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie on Thursday.

Mesut Ozil put on a stellar display and played a role in every goal.

Ozil was involved in the opening goal, won the penalty for the second and provided an assist in the third and fourth goals.

The playmaker of Turkish origin excelled. His stats made impressive reading. Ozil made 80 passes, five key passes, four dribbles, two assists and two shots.

To be fair he could easily have had a few more assists had his teammates not missed some of the glorious chances he created.

There was some confusion over the number of assists Ozil created.

Most stats compilers had him down as providing two but the 29-year-old thought he setup three goals – he counted winning the penalty as an assist.

Who are we to argue with Ozil?

Ozil has 13 assists in all competitions this season but it rises to 14 if Ozil was correct about how many goals he setup against CSKA.
