Newly appointed Arsenal manager Unai Emery has stated that he will support Mesut Ozil following a difficult summer for the 29-year-old.
Ozil came under fire from the German media after posing for a photo with Turkey President Recep Erdogan. Things went from bad to worse when Germany crashed out of the 2018 World Cup after finishing bottom of Group F.
The Arsenal playmaker was harshly singled out for criticism following the World Cup. This prompted Ozil to retire from international football citing racism and discrimination.
Arsenal boss Emery has stated that he wants Arsenal to be like ‘home’ for Ozil.
“We are going to help him feel good and show his quality with us,” Emery was quoted as saying by the BBC.
“I am sure he is going to have a big season with us.
“He has experience, he has quality and he has a great mentality.”
Ozil recently penned a new four-year contract with the north London based club. The 29-year-old registered nine assists and scored four goals in 35 appearances for Arsenal last season.
