The Fenerbahçe team bus was fired upon on the way back to Istanbul following the 5-1 win against Rizespor.
The incident occurred on the road between Rize and Trabzon, the assailant is reported to have shot the driver while the bus was travelling at high speed.
Fenerbahçe board member Mehmet Uslu revealed that the driver was rushed to hospital after the shooting and is currently in intensive care.
“We were travelling across the viaduct when the incident occurred, the driver was shot and we are lucky not to have had a serious crash that would have destroyed the bus,” Uslu said speaking on Fenerbahçe TV.

“The driver was seriously wounded and is currently in intensive care.”
The assailant is reported to have used a shotgun in the attack according to local security forces.
The Fenerbahçe players and staff were taken to the Trabzon airport via an armoured vehicle following the attack.
Fenerbahçe defender Bekir İrtegün tweeted that he could not believe the assailant managed to shoot the driver at such high speed.
“I cannot believe what just happened, other than the driver we are all well but I do not understand how he could have shot us under those circumstances,” İrtegün tweeted.
