“Hackney Marshes defending” – Jamie Carragher believes Ozil & Sanchez are being let down by teammates – slams Arsenal defence

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are being let down by their teammates defending.

Arsenal put on an impressive display during their draw with Chelsea in the Premier League last night.

The Gunners were held to a 2-2 draw despite being the superior footballing side. Arsenal almost ended up losing the game seconds after scoring the equaliser due to a defensive error.

Despite Hector Bellerin’s late goal, Arsenal remain five points behind Liverpool who sit in fourth spot.

According to Carragher, while Arsenal are strong going forward, they are being completely let down by defensive errors.

“They aren’t good enough. That has been the thing for a long time,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“In terms of going forward, Arsenal’s front three is better than Manchester City or at least very close.

“But they still get let down by what goes on behind them.

“We have been saying it for years, Their defending is so poor and basic. This is Sunday League, Hackney Marshes defending. It has been happening for so long.”

Arsenal have conceded the most goals in the top six (28). Arsene Wenger will be hoping things improve when they take on Nottingham Forrest in the Premier League this weekend.

Ozil’s future at the club is still cast in doubt after failing to pen a new contract. The 29-year-old could end up leaving the club for free in the summer.
