Besiktas’ head of communications Candas Tolga Isik has played down reports that Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini could end up at the club next season according to Goal.
The reigning Super Lig champions have been closely linked with a move for the Belgium international since the summer.
Besiktas rivals Galatasaray meanwhile are reported to have agreed a five-year deal with Fellaini who will be a free agent this summer unless he agrees to a contract extension.
Isik who was involved in the ‘Come to Besiktas’ marketing campaign this summer has distanced himself from the player.
The Besiktas board member feels that the Istanbul giants already have enough similar midfielders to Fellaini such as Gary Medel, Atiba Hutchinson, Oguzhan Ozyakup, Tolgay Arslan and Necip Uysal.
“I am in charge of communications, not the transfer, but I am not involved in transfers until they let me know,” Isik said.
“My job starts when they decide to sign a player. I don’t know anything about Fellaini, but I am not sure we need a player in that position: We have Medel, Atiba, Oguzhan, Tolgay and Necip”.

It is however, worth underlining that Isik is not involved in the transfer process.
Additionally, Besiktas are looking to restructure the squad over the summer and bring in fresh blood.
Ozyakup will be a free agent at the end of the season, Atiba Hutchinson is reaching the end of his career and Necip is not a first-team player.
United manager Jose Mourinho has urged Fellaini to stay on Old Trafford beyond the end of the season but has accepted that he could end up leaving.
“I told him don’t gamble too much before you know the extent of the injury. I don’t know [if he will sign a contract extension],” he said.
