Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has tipped his former star midfielder Patrick Vieira as a ‘potential’ Gunners manager.
The French tactician has found himself under intense pressure from Arsenal fans and pundits following a difficult 12 months.
Arsenal are set to finish out of the top-four for the second consecutive season and could once again be without UEFA Champions League football next season.
Wenger still has another season remaining on his contract with the north London based club and has reaffirmed his desire to see out his current deal.
However, the 68-year-old has stated that former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira “has the potential” to succeed him as manager.
Vieira won three Premier League titles during his Arsenal spell and was a port of their invincibles side which completing the 2003-04 season undefeated in league.
“He works in the moment in New York and he works for Man City. He’s a guy who has the potential one day, yes,” Wenger told SkySports.
“I’ve followed his managerial career. I think he does very well but overall, this Premier League is special.
“You have to come in and there are plenty of former players who played here who have potential, the intelligence and knowledge to do it.”
The World Cup winner is currently the manager of New York City FC following a spell in charge of Manchester City’s youth development.
