Nuri Şahin marked his return to Borussia Dortmund with an assist in the Bundesliga giants 1-1 draw against Anderlecht in Champions League Group D.
The draw was enough to ensure that Dortmund topped the group.
“Obviously it would have been better if we’d won, certainly in terms of our morale,” Şahin said.
“It would have been great to win again after our win against Hoffenheim but we can be proud of the way we played today.
“The team created a lot of chances and we really should have scored again.
“We need to get out of the habit of conceding late goals, this cannot continue.”
Şahin admitted he enjoyed his return to football and hopes to make his way back into the first team.
“I tried to enjoy the game tonight. It was important to get back into first team football after my long injury,” Şahin said.
“I did my best to help the team and I think I needed a few minutes to get into the game, but then I thought I did well. I was absolutely worn out by the end, though.”
Şahin setup Ciro Immobile for the opening goal to give Dortmund the lead.
The Turkish international now has one assist in one appearance for Dortmund this season.
