Ozil’s transition from defence to attack was ‘fantastic’ for Arsenal says Gary Neville

Football pundit and former Manchester United star Gary Neville praised Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil’s transition from defence to attack following the 3-1 win against Hull City.

“They [Özil and Sanchez] scored a goal within 3-4 seconds of winning it back, that is the dream scenario, it is worth mentioning that the transition from defence to attack was fantastic from Özil and Sanchez on the first and third goal, they are the type of things that probably go unnoticed,” Neville said speaking on Sky Sports 1.

Neville admitted that he has criticised Arsenal and Özil in particular for their lack of work off the ball.

“I have talked about Arsenal not working hard enough off the ball at times especially Özil but I liked the way he reacted in this game, I like the way he and Sanchez goes back, it is what Arsenal need from their Number 9’s and Number 10’s, they need them to do the best for their teams in defensive positions,” he added.

Özil made two interceptions and a tackle over the 90 minutes but once again it was his passing game that really stood out.

The 26-year-old completed a total of 87 passes at a 90 percent accuracy and made three key passes.

The Arsenal star was given a 7.41 from Whoscored and has not received a rating lower than 7.00 in his last eight league games.

The World Cup winner has been in impressive form since the turn of the year, winning two Arsenal Vitality Player of the Month awards and one PFA Fans Player of the Month award.

Arsenal joined Manchester City in second place on 70 points following the win but the Gunners still have a game in hand.
