The former Besiktas and Istanbul BB manager has put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship side. The news was confirmed on Sheffield Wednesday’s official website.
A statement on the club’s website added: “The Portuguese is joined by backroom team and compatriots João Mário, João Cunha and Bruno Lage.”
Carvalhal spent two seasons in Turkey but was unable to win any silverware while at Besiktas.
The 49-year-old has spent the bulk of his managerial career in his homeland including a spell at Sporting Lisbon.
Carvalhal will be expected to guide Sheffield Wednesday to promotion. The Owls finished in a comfortable 13th-placed last season.
