Legendary German goalkeeper Oliver Khan has pinned the blame for Germany’s shock World Cup exit on Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira.
Germany crashed out of the 2018 World Cup on Wednesday afternoon following a surprise defeat at the hands of South Korea.
Joachim Low’s side have already returned to Germany after finishing bottom of Group F following their 2-0 defeat.
Oliver Khan has blasted both Ozil and Khedira for the duo’s role in Germany’s disastrous World Cup campaign.
The former Bayern Munich star believes Ozil and Khedira were Germany’s most experienced players and that the pair failed to deliver when called upon.
“They deserved to go out. The players didn’t show enough commitment throughout the group stage,” Kahn was quoted as saying by TalkSport.
“They lacked togetherness, and their play was far too static.
“The main disappointments for me were Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil.
“They were bypassed during the first game against Mexico, and were left on the bench against Sweden.
“They got another chance on Wednesday, but neither of them could take it.
“They are two of our most experienced players, yet they failed in too many areas.
“The German FA has a lot of work ahead. They must ask themselves which players they should rely on in the years to come.”
While Ozil wasn’t at his best, the 29-year-old did carve out seven goal-scoring chances during Germany’s defeat to South Korea.
The 29-year-old will return to Arsenal next month to begin preparations for the 2018/19 season.
Ozil provided 14 assists and scored five goals in 35 appearances for Arsenal this term.
