Besiktas beat Mersin 1-0 at the Fatih Terim stadium to close the gap with leaders Fenerbahce to just two points.
The game had initially been abandoned a few weeks ago due to heavy snow and looked destined to be cancelled again when referee Baris Simsek postponed the start due to heavy fog.
Simsek did eventually give the go ahead for the match to start. The Istanbul giants look destined to drop points going into the last 20 minutes of the game until Jose Sosa scored a sensational free-kick goal on 74 minutes.
Besiktas still have another game in hand over Fenerbahce against Super Lig giants Trabzonspor.
