“We’d have just shown them the door” – Ex Arsenal star calls on Gunners to sell Ozil & Sanchez

Former Arsenal player Lee Dixon has slammed Gunners duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The pair could be on their way out of the north London-based club after failing to pen a new deal with Arsenal. Both Ozil and Sanchez have under seven months remaining on their current deals and could leave the club for free next summer.

Lee Dixon has insisted that the Arsenal teams he played in would have kicked both Sanchez and Ozil out due to their refusal to commit to the club.

“We’d have just shown them the door. ‘If you don’t want to play, then go’. That’s not changed,” Dixon was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“If a player doesn’t want to play for you: it happened with Michael Thomas 18 months after he scored (the title-winning goal against Liverpool) in ’89, he was in dispute with the club or George about money.

“He ended up going in similar circumstances and signing with Liverpool.

“It’s no different. If a player doesn’t want to stay somewhere, yes, agents and players manipulate situations – and clubs do, in order to get the best deal for the parties concerned – but in general, if you don’t want to go there, and you don’t want to stay, then you will be ousted from the environment and dressing room pretty quickly.

“Players work out whether you want to be there or not, and certainly fans do when they see your performances on the pitch.”

Sanchez came close to a move to Manchester City over the summer while Ozil has been linked with numerous clubs across Europe.

The duo featured during the Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City which left the Gunners 6th in the Premier League.

The north London-based club take on their biter rivals Tottenham in their next league fixture on November 18.
