Liverpool star Emre Can has offered his condolences to Turkey following the latest wave of PKK terrorist attacks in which 14 police officers were killed according to the BBC.
Can shared a picture of a Turkish flag on Instagram in the red replaced by black to represent mourning alongside a caption which translated into English means: “We are in mourning for our martyrs.”
The 21-year-old was born in Germany into a Turkish family and maintains close ties with his parents country.
The Turkish community is the largest immigrant ethnic group in Germany with a population estimated to be between 3-4 million.
Can is one of three players of Turkish origin in the current Germany national team with the others being Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil and Borussia Dortmund midfielder İlkay Gündoğan.
The young midfielder made his debut for Germany last week against Poland in the Euro 2016 Group D qualification game.
Turkey also has several players born in Germany in their national team setup including Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Beşiktaş winger Gökhan Töre and Galatasaray midfielder Hamit Altıntop.
