AC Milan try to hijack move for £15m defender targeted by Liverpool following Virgil van Dijk debacle
Liverpool turned attention back to Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer following the Virgil van Dijk debacle as reported by Turkish-Football yesterday.
The Reds have made strengthening the defence a priority and it was claimed that £70million-rated Southampton defender van Dijk met Jurgen Klopp in secret.
Liverpool were however, forced into issuing an official apology to the Saints on the official club website.

The Reds are still targeting defensive reinforcements and are interested in Kjaer who they have been keeping close tabs on.
Fenerbahce want £15 million for their star defender who still has another two-years left on his contract.
Liverpool could however, face competition from AC Milan who are in direct talks with Fenerbahce over the transfer of Kjaer according to the Milliyet.
Per the source, negotiations are ongoing but a deal has yet to be agreed. Milan initially offered £7 million [€7.5m] but it fell well short of the Yellow Canaries valuation and resulted in initial talks stalling.
Kjaer will get married to Eline Gollert in Rome, Italy later this month.
According to the report Gollert has been putting pressure on Kjaer to consider a move to the Serie A where he has previously played for Roma and Palermo.
