Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck has been targeted as a potential replacement for Galatasaray striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

A source close to Galatasaray revealed to Turkish-Football that the club have several names on their shortlist as they try to find a replacement before the transfer window shuts on 1 September.

Galatasaray have reached out to several players through intermediaries but are running out of time to get a deal completed.

Welbeck is among the names the Lions are targeting but they are having trouble convincing him to consider a move to the Super Lig despite offering Champions League football.

The 27-year-old has concerns over leaving his homeland and how it would affect his chances of keeping his place in the England national team.

The alternative for Welbeck could however, be a season as a fringe player at Arsenal under the stewardship of Unai Emery.

Galatasaray would be able to offer first-team football were he to make the move.

The club are desperate to replace Gomis before the transfer window shuts.

Gomis scored 32 goals and provided six assists for the Lions propelling them to the league title last season.

The 33-year-old is expected to officially complete his move to Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal on a €6m move.
