UEFA Euro 2024: Turkey table an official bid
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) have officially tabled a bid to host UEFA Euro 2024.
TFF president Yıldırım Demirören held a press conference today confirming the application had been made to UEFA.
As far as trying to predict the outcome of the Euro 2024 host is concerned it is worth noting that Turkey’s main competition with come from from Germany who are currently the only other bidders for the Euro 2024 tournament. Germany have not held the European Championship sine the 1988 edition, which was held in West Germany at a time when the country was still divided.
Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Denmark are also reported to be considering making a bid.
Turkey have never hosted a senior international football tournament but did hold the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup.
The Stadiums
Brand new stadiums have been built across Turkey in recent years with modern, state of the art venues in major cities such as Istanbul, Bursa, Antalya, Gaziantep and Trabzon.
Besiktas and Trabzonspor inaugurated their new stadiums, the 42,903 seater Vodafone Arena and the 41,513 Senol Gunes stadium, respectively in 2016.
Bursa is now home to a 43,441 capacity crocodile themed arena, Konya play in a brand new 42,276 seater stadium and Antalyaspor not only use solar power to operate the stadium but also provide energy to the local area.
Several clubs in cities across Turkey are also currently or are set to begin construction plans for new stadium projects which will be ready in time for Euro 2024 regardless of whether the country win the bidding process.
